Aspartame- Why is it Dangerous?

When given the option between sugar, or sugar-free, most of us will probably lean towards the sugar-free option as opposed to the original product. However, what we might not realize is that this option may not only lead to weight gain, but far worse. To start off, aspartame is a non-caloric artificial sweetener that has been used in sugar free, and diet products for many years. It has been taken off the market before for its recognized health risk, but was quickly back on the shelves. Now, we can find it in products like alternatives sweeteners, diet sodas, energy drinks, gum, and candy. The issue with this artificial sweetener is that it actually increases our hunger, making us crave more calories, especially from sugar. With the consumption of this sweetener, hormone production can be shut off, which prevents the brain from telling us when it is full. It can cause a spike in insulin, and store glucose found the blood, as fat. Especially for those with diabetes, aspartame (and all other artificial sweeteners) is extremely …

Vitamin C

Do you supplement with vitamin C? As we’ve been told by our doctors, vitamin C should only be taken during the winter seasons, and sickness because it can be acidic to the body. However, many more would say that this water-soluble vitamin should be supplemented with every single day for so many reasons. This vitamin has way more functions and benefits than just curing the common cold. It helps maintain and form collagen, which is important for strong bones, hair, skin and nails. It supports the immune system, connective tissues, cholesterol, thyroid, brain, heart, lungs, and so much more. Vitamin C helps to protect the brain from oxidation of dopamine, and adrenaline to adrenochrome- it is so important for mental health and brain function. Vitamin C helps to reduce inflammation, stress, heavy metals, toxins, and pesticides. It also kills abnormal cells, which makes its role extremely important in fighting disease and cancer. Vitamin C appears to be similar to sugar in the body, so as cancer cells move towards this “sugar molecule”, vitamin C works …

Multivitamins- Why & What Kind?

You may reject the thought of a multivitamin because you have heard that vitamins take at least a few months to start working or because you get enough nutrients from your foods. The truth is, a good quality multi will work within seconds, and you actually can’t get all of your nutrients from your foods. In today’s society, our soils are so depleted in nutrients that even if you are eating only organic, you still aren’t absorbing enough. Each of us should really be supplementing with a multivitamin at the least. If you’re stressed, tired, losing your hair, eating a poor diet, are an athlete, and taking other supplements, a multivitamin would be extremely beneficial to you. Drug store multivitamins, especially Centrum are just waste of your money as they are composed of synthetic material, which can actually be hazardous to your well being. These vitamins contain more fillers than anything, and are coloured using artificial dyes. If you notice that your vitamins are a bold colour, and are odour-less, then this is the first …

The Benefits of Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is a powerful substance that works to pull toxins and chemicals out of the body. It is so powerful that with just one teaspoon, it covers about 10,000 square feet. Just like everything else, it is extremely important to buy this at a medicinal grade, derived from a clean source. A lot of activated charcoals on the market are sourced from coal, which is hazardous. So, be careful with purchasing activated charcoal because you do not want to be ingesting coal and obtaining completely different results. The charcoal that I recommend is Crbn, as it is sourced from virgin coconut- the purest form available.      There are so many ways that you can use activated charcoal!   Use it is as a detox after a night of drinking or a day (or two) of eating a little too many sweet. Activated charcoal pulls these toxins out of the body, so it helps with water weight as well as hangovers! In a 500ml cup, add one teaspoon of charcoal, and some lemon. If …

Detox Juice

One of my favourite ways to get my greens in is by making a smoothie out of them. With a busy schedule, it can be hard to get the right amount of whole foods in. Whole foods are filled with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants- the proper kind of fuel. Some of the benefits that come with smoothies consist of: Natural energy Light daily detox Better nutrient absorption, due to blending Ensuring daily servings of fruits and vegetables Cleaner and healthier looking skin Weight and fat loss Overall hydration and health and the list goes on…. My two favourite combinations to blend are green spinach , and a red beet juice. When juicing, it is super important to remember to only use fruits and vegetables that are certified organic. Otherwise, pesticides will take over creating more harm than good. Produce with a thinner layer of skin should always be purchased organically. (cucumbers, apples, celery, spinach) Clean Green 2 cups organic spinach or kale 2-3 stalks of organic celery 1/2 cup organic cucumbers 1/2 of an organic …
